On Saturday, March 29th, Peterborough and much of Eastern Ontario were struck by one of the most severe ice storms in recent memory. The city declared a State of Emergency after the storm caused widespread devastation. There were downed trees, impassable roads, severely damaged homes and vehicles, and power outages across the entire city and Peterborough/Victoria Counties. Schools were closed due to the lack of electricity, water, and heat, and busing was suspended.
Like many others, the Century team was not spared from the storm’s impact. Our employees faced significant challenges as they worked to protect their families and navigate life without power or communication. Many lost everything in their fridges and freezers, enduring up to eight days without heat, hot water, and internet.
Despite these challenges, our team’s resilience and strength shone through. In the aftermath, we organized a spring breakfast to bring our employees together. With the help of our social committee, we gathered our team for a hot breakfast featuring pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, and fresh coffee—a small but meaningful gesture to support each other after the storm’s devastating effects.

As always, it’s not about what we take with us, but what we do for each other while we’re here. In times of crisis, our Century family stands strong together, supporting one another through every challenge.
